Within the last few years I’ve made a big transition of doing all of my work on my laptop to doing only the essentials on my laptop.

Reading, thinking, writing and almost everything else happens on pen and paper now. I have removed my keyboard, mouse and monitor from my desk. My work desk is now only notebooks, papers, books and pens.

When it’s time to sending that mail, doing admin, having the call or transferring my writing to a google doc then I move my laptop to my desk. I do the task and close it again.

I cannot answer if this makes me more productive or not and I really don’t care about the answer. It has however significantly increased my work happiness. My engineering and manager peers have a hard time understanding why this is, but I feel like I finally have the setup to allow me to do thought work.

My laptop is hammer for when I need to hammer in a nail. I’ve learned I don’t need to do that 8 hours every day.
