Problems, not solutions

2025-05-24

Working in tech has made one thing very clear to me: We only care about solutions. And it has gotten so bad that we’re rarely thinking about the problem anymore.

The obvious example here is the spread of LLM tools. There is now a push to “use AI to be productive” for employees in most modern companies.

For some reason we don’t ask ourselves: “What is productivity?”, “why are we not productive?” and “should we be more productive?”.

Instead we provide a solution and tell everyone to find a problem and apply the solution regardless of it being the right solution.

I think we need to take a step back and obsess about problems. We need to deeply think about why things are not working and really understand the factors at play. Only then can we identify a solution that actually makes a difference.

Focus on problems, not solutions.
